Gold Nuggets
– 6 top pieces of content for growth
-|-
Last week I wrote about a few top places to go to receive growth focused content each week. Along these same lines, I want to share some of the best individual pieces of content that I have come across over the past 10+ years. Keep in mind, I have previously shared the best and the second best articles that I believe exist in the whole wide world! It’s so hard to stick to just a few top picks as tons of great stuff exists that spans numerous categories of life. But here we go!
Top Content
–Jim Dethmer: Leading Above the Line Podcast Episode: This two hour podcast is definitely gold. It focuses on the difference between existing “below the line” (victim consciousness, fear) as opposed to “above the line” (creator consciousness, confidence), and much much more. Well worth the listen!
-James Clear: How to Develop Good Habits and Break Bad Ones Video: This 8-minute video is a summary of James Clear’s entire Atomic Habits book and process! If you have ANY habit in your life that you want to see changed, follow these steps and you will see it begin to happen. I speak from personal experience in regard to exercising every day! (The video will open with an ad. Just wait until it is over and then the Clear interview will begin).
–James Clear: The 1% Rule: This short article lays out the truth that those that achieve much more than everyone else only do so in small increments, but they do it every single day until it accumulates into an enormous long-term advantage. This is why having a clear strategy for how to get a little better each day is so important!
–Tim Urban: Taming the Mammoth: Why You Should Stop Caring What Other People Think: This medium-length article does a fantastic job of pointing out how we tend to think that people view us vs. how they actually do. It talks through how to lower your level of concern over what people are thinking about you. (Be warned that this article includes some profanity/crude language. Urban is also an atheist, and I couldn’t disagree more with him on this front regarding faith and God).
–Peter Kaufman: The Multidisiplinary Approach: This medium-length article is a podcast transcript of a speech given at Cal Poly University. It covers important topics like “going positive and going first” and “mirrored reciprocation” and is a masterclass on how to deal with other people.
–Michael Watkins: How Managers Become Leaders – The Seven Seismic Shifts of Perspective and Responsibility: This medium-length article is fantastic for anyone who is shifting from leading just themselves to leading other people. Some of the ideas sound complicated, but they are all actually simple and applicable. I have seen this content help many up-and-coming leaders on their journey!
In Closing
I hope that each of these can push you to grow and to be your best over the months and years to come. This content certainly has had this exact effect on myself and on many of the people who I have led over the past 10+ years. Please pay it forward by sharing even just one of these resources along with someone else who might benefit from them!
